About the Event
Britons In Hong Kong organised the petition 'We Could All Be Simon' on 29th November 2019 at British Consulate-General Hong Kong at 7:30 pm. Around 500 people participated in the event to show support to Mr Simon Cheng, the former staff of British Consulate General-Hong Kong and a British National (Overseas), who was illegally detained and brutally tortured by Chinese authorities. The petition was set to urge Her Majesty's Government to support and protect Simon, to investigate and intervene in the incident, and to protect Her Nationals (all British Nationals, including British National (Overseas) and their families) in Hong Kong. Most of the protesters wore a paper mask with the face of Simon to tell Her Majesty’s Government that any of us could be the next Simon Cheng. Our speaker read aloud the open letter, and the Deputy Consul received it. Our representative then led the crowd to chant slogans.
